SweetPetiteMe™ co-founders and friends, Coleen Silverman and Jeanette Ferrari first met as neighbors in 1998, while living in Reston, Virginia. Both were busy balancing their families and careers and often talked about how they’d like to stay home with their children – but still pursue their professional interests and make a contribution to the family finances. They realized this wasn’t an easy goal to attain and looking back, those conversations planted the seed for what would one day become SweetPetiteMe™. A few years later, Coleen decided to stay home with her children and resume her career when they were a bit older. And in 2005, Jeanie left the telecommunications industry and joined the field of management consulting, and that brought her the home and work life balance she had sought for many years. Though she was busy at home, Coleen often found herself cultivating new ideas for a fun, flexible home-based business that would allow her to earn an income and work exclusively from home. When she heard about a successful [home-based] children’s keepsake business that was gaining popularity in Canada, Coleen felt it offered the right balance of flexibility and income she was looking for. When Jeanie was equally interested in this opportunity, they contacted the founder [and at-home mom] of WeePiggies, Inc, to discuss the possibility of creating a similar keepsake business in Northern Virginia. With a lot of planning, hard work and fun, Coleen and Jeanie established SweetPetiteMe™ in January 2006 and began offering parents in their area a variety of unique and elegant children’s keepsakes. By the Fall of 2006, they were so impressed with client response and the growth of their business; they began training others in the VA, MD and DC area who also wanted to start their own home-based, keepsake business.
