What is the difference between a cast impression and a raised-relief impression?

A cast impression is an exact replica of your child’s hand or foot and a raised-relief impression is a raised impression of your child’s 'handprint' or 'footprint'. The process for making a cast impression differs significantly from making a relief impression. Both impressions are made from the same material, resulting in an intricately-detailed reproduction of your child’s hand or foot – down to their adorable dimples and tiny wrinkles.

How do you create a cast impression?

We prepare a molding material that is lukewarm to the touch and place your child’s hand/foot in the mixture for approximately 30-60 seconds. After the mixture solidifies to the consistently of a dense Jell-o, we gently remove your child’s hand/foot from the mold. And that’s it! [Although this is only the first step in creating a custom cast impression, it’s the only step that occurs during your appointment.] To ensure we get a perfect mold, we may repeat this simple and fun process 2-3 times for each hand/foot.

How do you create a raised-relief impression?

We gently press your child’s hand or foot into a smooth palate of soft clay that feels cool to the touch. We typically repeat this 2-3 times to ensure we get the perfect impression.

Is the casting material safe?

For your child’s comfort and safety, SweetPetiteMe™ molding material is 100% fragrance and color-free and is custom-formulated to activate in pleasingly warm, 97 degree water.

Where will my appointment take place?

Your personalized appointment will take place in your consultant’s home studio, where her home gallery and impression-making materials are easily accessible. If personal circumstances prevent you from traveling, check with your consultant to inquire about scheduling an in-home appointment. [travel fee may apply].

What happens during my appointment?

Upon arrival, you will view your consultant’s in-home gallery and discuss various options for customizing your keepsake. Once you’ve finalized your design, your consultant will determine the price of your custom keepsake and collect payment. You’re then ready to begin the quick and easy process of creating your child’s cast and/or relief impressions.

Tip: explore our full range of keepsakes in advance of scheduling your appointment by viewing our Photo Gallery or visiting a local retailer to See Our Samples in person. Discuss your keepsake preferences with your consultant, so she can allow sufficient time and materials when scheduling and preparing for your appointment.

How long will my appointment last?

A typical appointment takes about one hour and is primarily determined by the type and quantity of keepsakes you purchase. We allow 10-15 minutes for you to view the product gallery and make your product selections, 10-15 minutes to complete your order/inscription form and process payment and about ½ hour to take all the impressions we’ll need.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

To ensure your appointment is as quick and enjoyable as possible, please plan to bring the following:

  Another adult

Please make advance plans to bring another adult with you who can be dedicated to distracting/entertaining your child during the 15 seconds when the molding material is setting. This is important because you’ll be devoted to securely holding your child while your consultant makes the impression.

  A favorite photo, or two

If you’re considering a cast impression shadowbox, please bring at least one or two photos of your child that you’d like framed with their impression. Our standard shadowbox mat openings can accommodate both horizontal and vertically-oriented 4x6 and 5x7 photos. Custom size mat openings are available to accommodate other photo sizes and may require an additional fee.

  Clothing

Dress your child so their hands and feet are easily accessible. And please do not dress yourself or your child in clothing that you wouldn't want soiled. [Our molding mixture is easily removed from every surface but may permanently soil clothing.]

When can I expect delivery of my keepsake?

From the date of your appointment, you can expect framed shadowbox keepsakes to deliver in approximately 6 weeks, framed relief impressions
within approximately 3 weeks and unframed relief impressions within 2
weeks. Custom-size frames/mats may require additional production time.
Your consultant will give you an expected delivery date at the time of your appointment.

Your prices indicate a range of cost. How is the final price determined?

All of our keepsakes are individually designed and customized to our client’s own specifications, so the final price of your keepsake varies based on your selections. In an effort to help our clients plan their keepsake purchase, the samples and base pricing noted in our Photo Gallery reflects our most popular client designs and average prices.

What are the choices for customizing my keepsake?

We believe that your keepsake should reflect your own personal style and décor and we strive to provide a wide variety of standard options and finishes. We also offer a variety of more labor-intensive options/finishes that are available for a nominal fee. Design options include: frame size/finish, mat size/color/configuration, quantity/type/finish of impressions and the quantity/finish of engraving plates.

Do you offer a product warranty?

SweetPetiteMe™ workmanship and materials are guaranteed for as long as you own your keepsake [which we assume will be forever!] If at any time your keepsake is damaged due to defective workmanship/materials, simply contact your consultant to make arrangements for its repair. We understand that accidents can and will happen and in the event your keepsake is accidentally damaged [i.e. it wasn't securely attached to the wall, the glass gets broken etc] we are happy to restore it to original condition. Repair fees are reasonable are based on the time and materials required.

Can I schedule a group appointment?

Generally speaking, we limit our appointments to only those children in an immediate family -- to ensure each child is given the time and personal attention needed to produce an exquisite keepsake. However, exceptions can be made and depend on the age and number of children you’d like to schedule during a single appointment. Please contact your consultant to discuss how she can accommodate your needs. Note: it’s easiest to accommodate a larger number of children when creating raised-relief impression keepsakes, rather than cast impressions.
